🩺 Pumpkin for Pets — Treat or Trouble?

A little pumpkin can be a healthy fall snack for pets — but not all pumpkin is created equal

Fall means pumpkin everything — and our pets notice, too! The good news is that plain, canned pumpkin (not pie mix) can be a gentle, vet-approved digestive aid for both dogs and cats.

It’s rich in fiber, low in calories, and can help regulate stool consistency when used in small amounts.

However, steer clear of pumpkin pie filling — it’s packed with sugar and spices like nutmeg, which can upset your pet’s stomach.

If you’re trying it for the first time, start small: a teaspoon for cats or small dogs, a tablespoon for large dogs, mixed into their usual food.

🎃 Always check with your veterinarian before adding new foods to your pet’s diet — even healthy ones like pumpkin should be introduced with care.
