🏞 Dog-Friendly Fall Adventures Around the River Valley

Cooler weather and changing leaves make this the perfect time to get outdoors with your furry friend. Here are a few local spots to explore together.

As the River Valley cools off and the trees start showing off their colors, it’s prime time to grab the leash and head outside.

From trails to patios, our region offers plenty of ways to enjoy the season with your dog by your side.

🐕 Lake Fort Smith Trailhead (Mountainburg)

Just north of the city, Lake Fort Smith State Park offers some of the most scenic pet-friendly hikes in the Ozarks. Leashed dogs are welcome on most trails, and the crisp fall air makes those uphill climbs a little easier. Don’t forget water, and plan for a few photo stops — the lake views are stunning this time of year.

Sweet Bay Coffee Co. (Fort Smith)

Coffee lovers, rejoice! This locally loved café welcomes dogs on its front patio, where you can sip a latte while your pup relaxes at your feet. The staff is known for being friendly toward pets, and there’s usually a water bowl nearby. It’s an ideal post-walk stop or cozy afternoon hangout.

🌳 Creekmore Park (Fort Smith)

One of the city’s most popular green spaces, Creekmore offers plenty of room to roam. Take a stroll under the changing leaves, enjoy a picnic, or let your dog socialize with others along the shaded paths. Bonus: the nearby walking trail connects to several side streets, perfect for extending your route.

🍂 Whether it’s a quiet hike or a lazy coffee break, fall in the River Valley is made for exploring — and our four-legged friends agree!
