🐾 Human Walking: Get Fit, Give Joy, and Make a Dog’s Day

Fort Smith Animal Haven invites you to walk your way to better health — with a furry companion who’ll love every step.

If your daily walk feels a little routine, try adding a wagging tail to the mix.

Fort Smith Animal Haven’s new “Human Walking” program flips the leash and gives shelter dogs the chance to take you for a stroll. It’s free, fun, and one of the easiest ways to do something good for your body and your community at the same time.

Each Tuesday from 5 p.m. until dark (weather permitting), volunteers can stop by the shelter to be paired with one of their “professional dog walkers.”

You’ll head out on a short route — maybe through a quiet neighborhood, a nearby park, or a fenced play area — and spend a little quality time moving, relaxing, and sharing some fresh air.

Research consistently shows that dog walking boosts physical activity, lowers stress, and improves mood.

But the biggest smiles might belong to the dogs themselves — each walk gives them valuable social time and helps them stay calm, confident, and adoptable.

So if you’ve been meaning to move more, this might be the most rewarding workout in town.

Bring comfortable shoes, a friendly attitude, and get ready to be walked by a very enthusiastic coach with four legs.

📍 Location: Fort Smith Animal Haven, 9501 Black Bear Trail, Fort Smith AR
🕔 Schedule: Tuesdays, 5 p.m. – dark (weather permitting)
💲 Cost: Free
Requirements: Dog-friendly humans only 😉
